Dr. Gary M. Greenhas been President of Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, NorthCarolina since July 2001.  Prior tothat, he held teaching and administrative positions in Kentucky and Alabama andwas a Fulbright Fellow at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel.  Dr. Green was formerly the OutstandingAdministrator of the Year in the two-year Alabama College System and was adelegate to The Presidents' Summit for America's Future in 1997.  He was a presenter at the White HouseConference on the Economy in 2004, the U.S.-European Union Conference on LocalWorkforce Development in Brussels in 2005, the Asian-Pacific EconomicCooperation Conference in Hanoi in 2006, and the Canada-United States JointSeminar in Banff, Canada, in 2007.

 

Dr. Green'sleadership in economic and workforce development efforts includes the establishmentof the largest biotechnology associate degree program in North Carolina, astate pharmaceutical manufacturing training center and the National Center forthe Biotechnology Workforce, a Department of Labor initiative lead by ForsythTech.  In addition, under hisleadership, Forsyth Tech established the first nanotechnology associate degreeprogram in North Carolina, the largest logistics and supply chain managementprogram, and the largest IT training program in the region.  Dr. Green has worked with majorworkforce training initiatives with such companies as Boeing, ReynoldsAmerican, HanesBrands, and Dell. He is a frequent presenter on workforce development and communitycollege issues regionally and nationally including appearances on CNN andC-SPAN.   

 

Dr. Green serves onnumerous boards in the Winston-Salem area.  He is a native of Lexington, Kentucky where he earned hisB.A. and M.A. in English and Ed.D. in higher education from the University ofKentucky.  He is married to AnneWooten Green and the couple resides in Winston-Salem with their two children,Diane, 20, and David, 16.

 

 

Mr.Russ H. Read

NationalCenter for the Biotechnology Workforce

 

R.H.(Russ) Read was born and educated at Loyola, McGill and Concordia Universitiesin Montreal. He is a qualified secondary teacher in science and biology fromMcGill University and taught both biology and chemistry in Montreal. He holds aBachelor of Science in Biology; Masters in Educational Philosophy and agraduate degree in Health & Education Administration. He worked in thepharmaceutical industry for over thirty years. His work with Burroughs Wellcomeand subsequently Glaxo Wellcome led him to successive strategic marketingopportunities, including the launches of "bench to the bedside" antivirals suchas acyclovir, AZT, 3TC and abacavir for the treatment of HIV.  From mid2001 until August 2004 he was the founding CEO & President of the KuceraPharmaceutical Company, formerly based in Winston- Salem NC. In January of 2005he was appointed Executive Director of the National Center for theBiotechnology Work Force, a $5 million program sponsored by a U. S. Departmentof Labor grant, based at Forsyth Tech Community College (Forsyth County, NC).

 

Russhas co- written multiple successful grant /loan /award applications to the DOL,NIH, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and the North Carolina CommunityCollege System's BioNetwork. He has served as a reviewer of NSF ATE and NCBiotechnology Center grants.  Heserves on the Board of Directors of Onconix Diagnostics, NC Biosciences, theScience Advisory Board for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, theForsyth Tech Community College Biotechnology Program AdvisoryCommittee. He is the current Co - Chair of the Piedmont Triad LifeSciences Executives Round Table and Vice - Chair of the Piedmont TriadBiotechnology Committee.  

 

 

Ms. Linda Fowler

Director,Strategic Partnerships

Linda Fowler is Directorof Strategic Partnerships for the Office of Regional Innovation andTransformation in the Employment and Training Administration, U.S. Departmentof Labor (DOL).  She is engagedwith a number of agency-wide initiatives, including the management of twelveFederal Agency Partnerships, liaison to the Manufacturing Interagency WorkingGroup on Manufacturing Competitiveness, and the development of multipleIndustry Competency Models.  As atechnical advisor to the Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development(WIRED) initiative, Linda designed and is implementing Communities of Practice(Clean Energy, Biosciences, and Advanced Manufacturing) and oversees eighttechnology transfer and transition pilots.  

 

Linda was a senioradvisor to the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership at the U.S.Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology for tenyears.  MEP is a nationwide networkof not-for-profit centers in nearly 350 locations whose sole purpose is to helpsmall and mid-sized manufacturers with business and technical assistance. 

 

Previously, she wasa management consultant with Restructuring Associates providing corporatestrategic planning, innovative organizational design, and labor relationsservices to a number of Fortune 100 clients.  She was also director of Private Ventures, anentrepreneurship training center and project engineer for AC Spark Plug, adivision of General Motors Corporation. She completed her graduate work in Industrial and Labor Relations at theUniversity of Michigan.
